• This initiative by the GAS NATURAL FENOSA Foundation offers training sessions to vulnerable households in order to help them reduce their energy consumption and improve living conditions at home.
  • The Energy School, which is supported by the local council authorities in various municipalities throughout the Region of Madrid and organisations in the community sector, visited 25 towns in Madrid in recent months.
  • Since it was launched in 2017, the Energy School has trained over 5,854 households and experts from organisations in the community sector and local council authorities throughout Spain at more than 536 energy advice training sessions.

In partnership with the local council authorities of various municipalities throughout the Region of Madrid, the GAS NATURAL FENOSA Foundation Energy School trained over 1,387 people. These included energy vulnerable households and experts from social organisations. For this training project, the Energy School visited 25 municipalities in Madrid this year to offer a total of 64 workshops focused on energy saving and efficient consumption at home.

During the sessions, which last 2.5 hours each, the GAS NATURAL FENOSA Foundation explains how to understand an electricity bill, adapt consumption to real needs, boost saving and topics related to the subsidised rate, such as who can apply for it and how to fill in the application.

“The goal for the Energy School at these training sessions is to explain key aspects of energy saving and simple ways for households to reduce consumption”, explained Almudena Laguillo, Energy School Manager at the GAS NATURAL FENOSA Foundation.

In June, the Energy School provided sessions in Madrid at the Puerta de Toledo Social Services Centre, the La Latina Centre for the Elderly and at the Hermanas Hospitalarias institute of consecrated life.

An approachable initiative

Energy School is one of the initiatives of the GAS NATURAL FENOSA Foundation which was launched in 2017 at the same time as when the power company launched its Vulnerability Plan. This school offers training workshops for social workers in the community sector, company volunteers and vulnerable households in order to explain details about electricity bills, give advice on utility savings, energy-related procedures, consumption habits and efficiency.

Since it was launched in 2017, the Energy School has trained over 5,854 people at more than 536 training sessions throughout Spain.

The GAS NATURAL FENOSA Foundation

Set up by the power company in 1992, the GAS NATURAL FENOSA Foundation seeks to educate, train, inform and raise awareness throughout society on energy and environmental issues. It also develops Social Action programmes both nationally and internationally, by influencing particular initiatives aimed at alleviating energy vulnerability. It promotes initiatives in the cultural sphere, geared both at preserving and disseminating the historical heritage of the gas and electricity sector.
